Primo day 4 – March 3, 2014

Date: 3 March 2014 Author: Sjoerd Dirk Categories: Primo 2

maker-crop

I didn’t plan to do much today, but it turned out otherwise.

Plywood

I went to my local hardware shop to buy some plywood.
Well… they don’t sell 4mm plywood, they have 3,6mm :(

At home I started searching for 1mm and 4mm wood.
I found a local timber shop which sells 4mm plywood.
Unfortunately I had to buy a whole sheet of it (122 x 250 cm) for € 17,86.
They sawed it for me in strips of 60cm, so I only have to saw it in pieces of 30cm width.

The though part was the 1mm plywood.
I found a specialized timber shop, but they also only sell whole sheets of 155 x 155 cm for 50 euro!
And that’s too much, I only need one sheet of 30 x 60 cm.

Another supplier sells sheets of 50 x 25 cm, 25 x 100 cm and 50 x 100 cm.
But I need 30 x 60 cm.
I’m going to call them tomorrow (they’re closed today) and I’ll ask if it’s possible to get a sheet of 50 x 50 cm.
Hopefully they’re willing to cut a piece of 50 x 100 cm in 1 piece of 50 x 50 cm (and sell that part to me) and cut the other half in 2 pieces of 25 x 50 (and add that to their stock).
That will be another € 13,73 to add to the total.

I can save on shipping costs, because this supplier is based in a village next to the village a colleague lives (and he will get it for me).

Orders

I got confirmation from Tayda, AliExpress and Ciseco that my orders are shipped.

Lasercutter

I can use a laser cutter next friday!

And Primo updated the files on their site with the trees and fences for Cubetto.

I’ve now updated my PDF’s with the trees.
And I’ve added 1 PDF for the fences (2 long ones, and 1 shorter one).
I now have 6 x 4mm x (30 x 60 cm) and 1 x 1mm x (30 x 60 cm).

I’ve asked Primo if they’ll add the files  for the Cubetto Home / Arrival block also.

Oh, and they’ve added the black/white sticker for the wheels!

Except for the Cubetto Home / Arrival block, I think I have everything now.

Update

Primo doesn’t have the DXF files for the Cubetto Home /Arrival block (yet).
So I’m going to make my own. It’s only a simple cube, that shouldn’t be too hard ;)

Luckily I’ve found http://boxmaker.rahulbotics.com/ and now it’s really easy to make my own box.
And I’ve did and I also squeezed them into my PDF’s (it’s still 6 x 4mm, but they’re cramped now, so I can’t add anything).

It’s so great that I came across your blog!
I’m also planning to build primo myself. Just yesterday I went through the bill of material and ordered missing stuff. Thanks for the links to the shops!
I’ll also visit the local fablab to find out if I can do the laser cutting there.
Keep the daily posts comming :)

      Hi Roman,

Thank you for your nice comment.
I will keep updating my blog, maybe not every day.
But it will be every day I’m working on Primo.

Please inform me about your progress.
